NH Senate Passes Update to State's Net Metering Law

Concord, New Hampshire [RenewableEnergyAccess.com]

The New Hampshire Senate passed a revision to the state's net metering laws on Thursday that will raise the size of eligible renewable energy systems to 100-kilowatts (kW).

Now larger commercial-sized systems will be able to sell excess renewable power back to the grid. Currently, only systems up to 25 kW are able to net meter. Renewable Energy advocacy groups in the state hope that the new law will help encourage development of commercial solar projects and residential hydropower projects.

"We are just so excited that legislators have passed another bill supporting renewable energy," said Carolyn Demorest, Legislative Coordinator for the New Hampshire Sustainable Energy Association. "Hopefully this will make solar and other renewables that much more accessible in the state."

The New Hampshire legislature passed a renewable portfolio standard (RPS) last month that will require the state's utilities to generate 25 percent of their power from renewable resources by 2025. New Hampshire was the last state in New England to pass a RPS.
