"There is simply no justification for terminating geothermal energy research at the Department of Energy. Recent studies by the National Research Council, the Western Governors' Association Clean Energy Task Force and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology all support expanding geothermal research funding to develop the technology necessary to utilize this vast, untapped domestic renewable energy resource."

Geothermal Research Funding

Geothermal research needs to do what it must do,
Drill down into the heated crust, does Congress have a clue?
We need new ways to bore and tap the sources down below,
Swollen with heat energy, it's not too deep you know,
Terra watts of power lie directly 'neath our feet,
Our Congressmen should give support, it would be really neat,
To clearly see their duty and to give the vote they ought,
To solve our power problem needs more than a passing thought,
O Congressmen, O leaders of our country be inclined,
Please lend your ear to what is clear a method so sublime,
A child may see the good that Geothermal has to offer,
Please give attention and the needed funding from your coffer.

It's amazing how little awareness there is about geothermal energy as a practical solution to today's energy problems and especially global warming. Geothermal is actually cheaper than clean coal and is available now. Ormat (ORA NYSE) has built a billion dollar business around it. Geothermal works right now.
