"We get clean power from new solar at a cost that is 10% less than conventional power from the utility. It will stay below the cost of grid power for the length of the contract. It also reduces our peak demand power charges by 70%. All this at no capital expense and no increasing in the asset base."

Congratulations to Fetzer Vineyards and MMA for putting this project together

H."tHe friendly element" pops up over the horizon every morning not only to ripen the grape harvest but also to run the bottling plant.

I hope the next step is to have a fleet of HFC vehicles delivering this "liquid sunshine" to our stores.

Availablity of Institutional money is only one aspect of the equation. The key component to the success, is the stability of the income produced by the PV instalation over the life of the investment.

Third party financing will usher in a massive implementation of Solar PV power. There is a similar program for homeownwers that I am involved with.

Great approach to providing access to renewable energy NOW - knowing that conventional utility costs will continue to increase while the cost of the installed system will remain fixed. Automatic gains and growth for the funding entity. Do any of the Carbon offset organizations fund activities like this? I know a great deal is being done in third world countries - but have not heard a lot about whats going on in the homefront.

I would like to see more of these for homeowners in my state (CA).

Wine truly from the sun. I'll drink to that! ;-)

I'm almost tempted to say I'll drink to that, but I do not drink very much wine at all these days.

But if they sell grapes then yum.
Let's hope they sell the power to the nearby homes as well.

Great idea, that was the most thorough, well thought out article I've ever read, and I've read tons of articles on solar power and wine, or maybe it was on solar power while drinking wine? Anyway, great idea and article.
