Module efficiencies are important in determining the system performance by area; this factor can lead into economic issues involving the balance-of-systems (BOS) components and maximum system output when space is a constraint.

Nice report and music to our ears. From our perspective, the manufactures of Balance of System equipment are anticipating the drop in PV module costs. It will have two dramatic effects on our sector of the business. Clearly our volume will increase, but as the cost of modules approaches $2.50 per watt, the BOS segment will no longer be under the radar. We are working hard to be ready with lower cost and more reliable electronics to meet the growing market needs.

It's great that this research gets out to the solar industry and all of our stakeholders. We need to be realistic about current and future module efficiencies and lifecycle energy output for the various technological approaches. Over-optimistic expectations may create a bubble as we experienced with the internet. We can all minimize the risk of bursting a bubble by not overhyping our industry.
