Retrofit of Montreal Hospital Includes Geothermal Heat Pump

Montreal, Quebec [RenewableEnergyAccess.com]

An energy retrofit, which includes a geothermal heat pump, will help Hospital Louis-H. Lafontaine (HLHL) in Montreal become more energy efficient while lowering utility and operational costs and greenhouse gas emissions.

HLHL will finance the $6.8-million program, self-funded over a six-and-a-half-year period, is expected to save the hospital more than $840,000 annually in energy and operating costs. It also will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 4,300 tons per year.

In addition to energy-efficiency improvements, largely provided by Honeywell Building Solutions, the facility renewal program involves digging approximately 40, 500-feet-deep underground wells to install the piping for a 150-ton geothermal heat system for domestic hot water production.

"We are planning for the future and know the long-term relationship we are beginning with Honeywell will help us to meet our strategic goals and continue to serve our community by providing quality healthcare while at the same time being environmentally responsible," said Andre Lemieux, General Director at HLHL.
