The US Government should support cellulosic ethanol AND they are. Ethanol subsidies are high and cellulosic ethanol subsidies are even higher. State goverments are also getting into the act. For instance, the govenor of Illinois proposes investing $100 million over the next ten years to build four cellulosic ethanol plants in downstate Illinois. As a taxpayer, how should I feel about this? Actually, I think it's great. When you consider how much military spending there is to protect oil interests around the world, ethanol subsidies are dwarfed in comparison. So if cellulosic ethanol is so great, where is all the private investment? Help is on the way!! I just read about Virgin Oil's huge commitment to cellulosic ethanol. Even Alan Greenspan sees this industry as very lucrative AND according to this site there are many companies who are positioning themselves to get rich from cellulosic ethanol: www.InvestInCellulosicEthanol.com

We need to get off our dependency on Middle Eastern oil. Cellulosic ethanol is a great way to do that. And it's conservation. Why plow under what you can't harvest when it can be used to produce fuel for our cars? This is a win win technology. In the long term I also see ethanol as a hydrogen carrier (BFRE and PEIX are looking into this), so we can still use the existing fuel infrastructure and get the ethanol from the pumps, and I see the fuel cells generating electricity from the hydrogen to run our vehicles. We can get rid of dependence on MidE, smog, and noisy cars...it starts with cell. eth.
