"In the 1980s and 1990s, wind was a boom or bust research technology, and putting up wind turbines depended strongly on subsidies. In 1987, wind cost 10 cents per kilowatt hour to produce. Now, it's down to about 4 cents."

Data bases of this type are important. Basic research applied to blade materials will help open up the industry by continually improving the design and efficiency of the blades.

We also need data basis in other areas of sustainable energy. For exampl, on the extraction of energy from flowing water as compared to dam water.

My friend from China told me that the pressure from the water in their large dam is causing stress on the geological structure of the rock beneath the dam.
