"We are excited about the results of this study. Harnessing the energy from Maine's big tides in an environmentally friendly manner will reduce our dependence on imported fossil fuels and will create jobs in the state."

I certainly hope all these studies on tidal power generation will lead to action. The energy resources are available but it is up to us to make the necessary effort.

Since the power density of moving water is so much greater than wind, we should take advantage of the areas under study. It is a golden opportunity to harvest energy that will replace the need for thermal generation.

I think the overall effect of wind, solar and tide generation will be to create a new and sustainable industry for our country and plenty of new jobs for our workers. We will keep our funds from going overseas for oil and we will keep our air clean.

There have been articles in various journals for more than 40 years discussing the potential for using the energy available in tidal areas of Maine. Is there any reason to hope that more political will exists today than at any time in the last half century? Which political leaders can one point to with confidence that they will lead us in the direction of doing more than talk about harnessing this potential source of electrical energy?

It looks like tidal energy is finally taking off, and about time. The encredible amount of energy stored in waves and tides make them ideal energy sources.
