U.S. Air Force Locks In to Renewable Energy

Atlanta, Georgia [RenewableEnergyAccess.com] Sterling Planet, a portfolio company of GreenShift, is supplying the U.S. Air Force, the nation's largest purchaser of renewable energy, with 530 million kilowatt hours (kWh) of this clean energy source, representing enough electricity to power 51,000 average U.S. homes for a full year. The U.S. Air Force was honored in October 2005 as a recipient of a 2005 Green Power Leadership Award for its commitment to renewable energy. The Air Force is also the largest purchaser of renewable power in the federal government, accounting for 41 percent of all green power purchases by the federal government. The annual awards were presented during the National Green Power Marketing Conference, sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Energy and the Center for Resource Solutions to recognize organizations whose actions help advance the development of the nation's green power market. Jim Snook, Air Force renewable energy program manager, said the Air Force strategy is to lock in long-term contracts at fixed prices to ensure reasonably priced rates in the future.

I'd like to point out that by the Air Force selecting renewable energy they are adding significant security to our Air Force Bases. By having their own capability to generate power they are less suseptible to terrorist or war time attacks that would attempt to deny power. This ensures that in the event of a war or attack we would have a strong defense command and control network intact. That's every bit as important as the $ savings in my book. Also note that by providing our own power we reduce our dependence on oil from nations we would prefer to not be spending time in. This could result in a shorter war and not having to go back in the future. Now that is a very smart Air Force! Yes I'm a little bias as I've spent the last 25 years of my life serving my country and 14 of those in deployable postions and much time overseas. Senior Master Sergeant Davies,

Any chance the US Airforce around the world might consider Solar Thermal for the many homes and public facilities they construct. Hawaii and Guam are perfect examples of where Solar Thermal has a proven record!!! - Consider a Sunsiphon system from SunEarth Inc next time you are planning some new houses for your personel.
