What a great race. There is even a high school version of this solar race. It's the winstonsolar.org school district that Dr Marks runs and included schools from all over the US and Mexico.
I got to meet them in Tempe AZ as they made a 56 mile section of their solar challenge. They get faster and beter every year.
These are all the leaders of tommorow, it will be great when they are designing light efficient clean vehicles for our use.

We saw the racers at their scheduled 30 minute stop in Tulsa Oklahoma yesterday and we were all impressed with the design and functionality of the cars and the enthusiasm that the students in the support staff went about their work. Cars were all opened and new drivers installed, batteries checked, water and supplies added and then new driver went on their way. While all this was happening the solar arrays were physically held at the most optimum angle to gain the most sun in the batteries during the stop. Some teams were very organized with the commander barking out orders in a direct fashion and others were more laid back. A great event and nice to see them up close. My son said he wants to race one someday, making the trip all that more worthwhile.
