Utility Donates One Million kWh in Green Power

[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] A one-millionth customer celebration deserves more than just a ceremonial gold electric meter. Puget Sound Energy (PSE) of Washington State is also donating 1 million kWh of green power to families who need help paying their energy bills as a way to mark the utilities hallmark of serving a million electric customers in the state. The utility's $60,000 donation to the PSE-Salvation Army Warm Home Fund will come from their existing power generating facilities. But PSE will buy enough renewable energy certificates from the Bonneville Environmental Foundation (BEF) to essentially convert the 1 million kWh worth of donated electricity into green power. The BEF sells green-tag credits to individuals and businesses across the Northwest to help finance the development of renewable energy resources such as wind- and solar-powered generating plants.
