University creates Alternative Energy Research Chair

[RenewableEnergyAccess.com] The University of Manitoba has created a research chair that will focus on developing ways to integrate leading-edge alternative energy technologies into the electricity sector. The chair, which will be filled by Dr. Eric Bibeau, will receive $500,000 from Manitoba Hydro and the same from the federal government's Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council. Bibeau is currently working with the utility on projects in the areas of bioenergy, small hydro, ice mitigation for wind turbines and battery energy storage technologies.

I think that alternative energy research departments and chairs should be created in universities all over the world, especially in the US where resources are readily available. We cannot depend upon fossil fuels forever; there are finite amounts. The type of world we live in depends upon the continued availability of energy and the development of alternate sources is essential.

As long as alternative energy research projects are funded by parties with vested interests, their findings will be limited in their findings.
