Solar Supporter: Clinton to Give Keynote at SPI

This is the year of politics, so who better to speak at America's largest solar show than perhaps the most skilled politician around.

The Solar Energy Industries Association and the Solar Electric Power Association created quite the buzz this morning when they announced that former President Bill Clinton would be giving the keynote address at Solar Power International in Orlando, Fla., on Sept. 12.

SPI will be held Sept. 10–13 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla., and the show is expected to feature 1,200 exhibitors and more than 24,000 attendees from 128 countries.

Clinton has long been a staunch supporter of renewable energy, and solar power in particular. His Clinton Foundation has invested heavily in helping Haiti get back on its feet following the devastating earthquake in 2010, and solar energy has proven to be a vital component in the rebuilding effort.

“President Clinton’s global perspective and stature are sure to motivate and inspire our exhibitors and attendees,” said Julia Hamm, president and CEO of SEPA. “We are honored to present the former President as our keynote speaker and believe that his understanding of the need to explore alternative energy will be a message that resonates with all.”

“Having President Clinton keynote Solar Power International presents a fantastic opportunity for solar energy professionals attending in Orlando,” said Rhone Resch, president and CEO of SEIA. “His leadership and commitment to expanding the use of solar energy – both in the U.S. and in the developing world – makes him one of our industry’s strongest advocates. We are honored to welcome President Clinton to Orlando and to hear his vision on elevating solar to the next level.”
