Endesa Opens 12.3-MW Solar Plant

Endesa has announced that its 12.3-megawatt solar photovoltaic (PV) plant at the Guadarranque industrial estate in Spain is now online. The plant, which has an estimated annual generation capacity of 24 gigawatt-hours (GWh), represents a total investment of EUR 90 million [US $131.75 million].

The solar plant is comprised of 123 solar PV installations each with a capacity of 100 kilowatts (kW). Each installation includes 550 220-watt solar panels.

The PV panels are installed on solar tracking systems that move on a north-south axis. This means that the panels can be pointed towards the east in the morning, lie flat at midday and then directed westwards in the evening. The tracking system could improve the solar radiation capture by 17% compared with a fixed facility, boosting production by 22%, Endesa said.
